Saturday in Kos

Lunch at Aegli Cafe: Dolmades, Fasolia gigantes and a green salad

A veritable meat feast at Elia

with a salad

One last orange pie

... and a nightcap.

With Cyclone Zorbas, or Medicane Zorbas still rumbling away, there wasn't much we could do, except eat. Saturday was our penultimate day in Kos (Sunday was a write-off and Monday's trip home met us with chaos at Kos Airport with flights diverted there from worse places as we watched lightening over the runway), so Saturday, we went back to our favourite Aegli Cafe for lunch. In the evening, we went to the gorgeous Elia restaurant in the old town with authentic Greek food and local customers, after which we came back to Aegli for dessert - their's are the best. On Saturday nights Aegli have a wonderful, informal and friendly open-mike night with local Greek artists. It seemed rude not to stay for a nightcap.

Sunset at Zia

The view from Zia with more of the moody medicane skies

Resisted the temptation to start Christmas shopping in Zia

Valid point!

Went back to the Greek night at the Taverna Fantasia, which was disappointing this time, with a stop off in the village Zia first, ostensibly to see the sunset, but I suspect mostly to encourage us tourists to make the most of the tat shopping opportunity. They'll have been disappointed. They couldn't help the weather.

Moody Skies

Moody skies over Lambi beach

Back at Papa’s Beach Bar

Back at Papa’s Beach Bar

Trapped in a cake shop as the rains came down

The skies were already threatening as we walked up Lambi beach, but as we walked back, the rains came. We definitely weren't dressed for them and it really was heavy rain, flooding roads everywhere, very quickly, so we dashed for cover. This was when the Cyclone Zorbas, or Medicane Zorbas first began to affect the island. And we got trapped ... inside this cake shop. Disaster! 😂

Casa Romana

Courtyard in the Casa Romana

Roman Odeon of Kos

We'd liked the Casa Romana in Kos Town so much last time we were there, we decided to visit again. We also went to the nearby Roman Odeon of Kos.

About to leave Kos Town

About to leave Kos Town

Leaving Kos Town

Passing the Castle of Neratzia

Approaching Pothia or or Kalymnos Town on the island of Kalymnos

Cafe beside Kalymnos town hall.

The Santa Maria had finished for the season, but she was moored in Kalymnos. So we went on the Captain Hook, which was operated by the same crew anyway, and they felt like old friends. The weather turned on us when we were on the way back with a Medicane on it's way, which made it like riding a bucking bronco.
