Who Benefits? campaign counters Tory propaganda against welfare state

LAURA Grace, 26, is a full-time mum for her four children, and her husband earns £1,000 a month as a car mechanic.

She can only make ends meet by claiming £140 a week in Child Tax Credits. “This isn’t a lifestyle choice,” she says. “It’s a necessity.”

That’s not what a lot of people – too many – believe. They think anyone on benefits is a feckless shirker. Attitudes have hardened against claimants during the Coalition years, particularly among the young.
