Now you see it, now you don't


Robbed! A whole village and a range of mountains disappear overnight.

Who woulda thunk that this panorama would turn into the sight below in the Canary Islands, in August. (It is only the unsightly overhead cables - a subject for a future rant - that provides any clue that this is indeed basically the same view.)

Apparently, it was a tropical front that caused freak storms, which drooped more water on the islands that anyone can remember. It is definitely not normal and even the meteorologists and local government were taken by surprise.

After the tornado in Birmingham, I joked that the next freak weather report would be "Hell freezing over".

Let me tell you, this was about as likely.
